Milestone 5 - Scenarios - Greg Thompson
It's 9am on a Saturday at Re-fun, a nonprofit resale store. Greg Thompson, a volunteer, has arrived for the day.
In order to take advantage of the Re-User Friendly system the store recently bought, Greg needs to publish the list of items that Re-User Friendly patrons are looking for so that Treasure Hunters can be enlisted to look for those things.
Greg sits down at the store's computer station and logs into the store's Re-User friendly account. He notices that that since yesterday, an additional 30 items have been added to the request list.
He walks over to the monitor that displays the request list to people as they enter the store and turns it on. The monitor flickers to life. The pile of scrap paper and small pencils next to the monitor was restocked last Thursday and is ready to go.
After turning on the monitor, Greg walks over to the front door and unlocks it and turns the sign on the door from Closed to Open. Daisy Higgins - a regular thrifter is walking towards the entrance with a group of her friends and Greg stops to hold the door open for them. She stops to chat for a minute.
G: "Morning young lady! We've missed you around here the last 2 weeks."
D: "Good morning, Greg! I know, I wish I could come in every week! *sees monitor* What's this?"
G: "This is a new system we're trying out. It's called Re-User Friendly. This thing shows what folks are looking for here without them even coming in to the store. If you can find any of these things and bring them to the counter, we'll give you a coupon. Then we'll hold that item for the person who was looking for it. We call it our Treasure Hunters' list."
D: "That sounds fantastic. How's it working so far? "
G: "We're starting to get quite a few people asking for things. There were 30 new requests over the weekend! You're always finding nice things; I bet you'd make a great treasure hunter."
D: "I'll definitely give it a shot! Sounds like fun and it seems like a good way to get people to buy more used stuff!"
*Daisy walks over to the screen, makes notes, wanders into the store*
Walking back over to the desk, Greg notices that last week's paperback sale was successful and they now have more shelf space for books. He heads back to the computer and clicks on the dashboard link to update acceptable items. Greg navigates through the categories and selects books. The system updates the database and now shows that Re-Fun is again accepting books at its drop-off location.
Being mid-September, Greg also notes that the system automatically removed summer items from the acceptable list as scheduled on the store's account calendar.
After taking care of a bit of store business and helping several other customers, he notices Daisy walking up to the counter smiling and holding a set of blue plates and a shirt.
Greg walks over to the register in front of Daisy.
G: "Did you find anything good today?"
D: "I found this great shirt, and I think these plates matches request number 27"
G: "Let's check"
Greg punches in #27 into the request search and the system displays the request details.
G: "Looks good!"
Greg confirms in the system that 27 has been found, adding it to the current transaction. He takes the plates and sets them on a hold shelf and hands Daisy the freshly printed receipt to use as a coupon. She notices that there is a website on the coupon, along with a special code.
D: "What are these for?" she asks, pointing to the website and code.
G: "Oh! You can set up a profile on there and compete with other Treasure Hunters or request things yourself! The code is just so it knows what you found."
D: "Great! I'll check it out"
Greg walks Daisy over to the door and holds it open for her and her friends.
G: "See you folks next time!"
On his way back to the counter, he notes that the blue plates are no longer being displayed on the Treasure Hunter list.
