Milestone 5 - Scenarios - Daisy Higgins

It's Saturday morning, and Daisy has a few hours free before she has to get to her new part-time job as a barista at the local fair-trade coffee shop. She applied for the job recently because she really needed the extra cash during the school year to help pay for her art supplies and other expenses.

Daisy is excited, though, because she loves Saturday mornings: they mean having time to go thrifting with her friends. She and some of her friends from her co-op usually go to some of the local thrift stores every other weekend or so, just for fun to see what they have. Most of Daisy's furniture and clothing are from thrift stores, and she is proud of her eclectic and individual style. She considers herself an expert at being able to find the gems at the stores that others may overlook.

After eating some granola for breakfast, Daisy meets up with 3 of her friends and they walk the 10 blocks or so across town to their favorite thrift store. On the way, they laugh and talk about the party that they'd gone to the night before, and also discuss what they need from the thrift store that week. Daisy is looking for a toaster for her co-op, since their old one recently stopped working. But other than that, she just wants to check out what new stuff they've gotten in that week, to see what cool stuff she can find.

As frequent customers, they are familiar to the store volunteer, Greg Thompson, who greets them as they come in. Her friends start making their way through the store, but Daisy stops to chat for a minute.

G: "Morning young lady! We missed you around here the last week."

D: "Good morning, Greg! I know, I wish I could come in every week! *sees monitor* What's this?"

G: "This is a new system we're trying out. It's called Treasure Hunter. This thing shows what folks are looking for here without them even coming in to the store. If you can find any of these things and bring them to the counter, we'll give you a coupon. Then we'll hold that item for the person who was looking for it. We call it our Treasure Hunters' list."

D: "That sounds fantastic. How's it working so far? "

G: "We're starting to get quite a few people asking for things. There were 30 new requests over the weekend! You're always finding nice things; I bet you'd make a great treasure hunter."

D: "I'll definitely give it a shot! Sounds like fun and it seems like a good way to get people to buy more used stuff!"

Daisy takes a scrap of paper from next to the monitor and quickly jots down a few items, but before getting down to the business of treasure hunting, she goes to the kitchen appliances section to find the toaster, which is quite easy since they have a selection of over a dozen toasters to choose from. She then meets up with her friend Erin and they head to the women's clothing section like they do every week. It's their favorite department because there are always such great new finds. Daisy picks through the shirts and finds a couple that look good, and she and Erin go to the dressing rooms to try them on.

While trying on shirts, Daisy tells her friends about the new Treasure Hunter system and how they can get discounts for finding items in the store for others. As soon as they are done, she goes to try to find some of the items she had jotted down from the screen earlier.

Looking at her paper, she reads that the request is for a set of blue plates. Just twenty minutes earlier, she remembered seeing some blue plates near the toasters, so she goes to check it out. Just as she remembered, there was a stack of six matching blue plates. She grabs the plates and takes them and the shirt she decided to buy up to the counter. Greg walks over to the register in front of Daisy.

G: "Did you find anything good today?"

D: "I found this great shirt, and I think these plates matches request number 27"

G: "Let's check"

Daisy waits while Greg types something into the computer. After a few seconds he looks up.

G: "Yes, looks good!"

He takes the plates and sets them on a hold shelf and hands Daisy a receipt to use as a coupon. He applies the discount to her purchase but lets her keep the receipt. She notices that there is a website on the coupon, along with a special code.

D: "What are these for?" she asks, pointing to the website and code.

G: "Oh! You can set up a profile on there and compete with other Treasure Hunters or request things yourself! The code is just so it knows what you found."

D: "Great! I'll check it out"

Greg walks Daisy over to the door and holds it open for her and her friends.

G: "See you folks next time!"
